Talk about Samgyeopsal Day
When I was in the military, I took my American roommate out to dinner at a samgyeopsal place once. I remember the look on his face when two chunks of pork belly were placed on the grill. He goes, “Why are we having bacon for dinner?” I told him that even though it did look like bacon, it wasn’t called bacon in Korea. It was called samgyeopsal, there-layer pork belly. He became a big fan of samgyeopsal and soju ever since. Speaking of samgyeopsal, March 3rd was Samgyeopsal Day. Why? Because the number 3 in Korean is “sam” and samgyeopsal has three layers of meat. Why not enjoy your samgyeopsal today? Happy belated Samgyeopsal day!
