Jeongwol Daeborerm (Feb 22, 2013)

This Sunday is Jeongwol Daeboreum, the first full moon of the Lunar New Year.
This holiday is celebrated across Korea with many traditions and customs.
My favorite tradition is geuybulnori. it's a game where farmers burn the dry grass on the ridges between rice paddies.
Children put burning charcoal or pine cones in tin cans with holes and twirl it around. it is supposed to drive away evil spirits and bring bountiful harvest.
Another custom is cracking burem with your teeth on the morning of Daeboreum. Bureom refers to a variety of nuts such as walnut, chestnuts, peanuts and pine nuts.
This is believed to keep your teeth healthy for the year.

Pattern Practice
It is our family tradition to eat ogokbap on Daeboreum.
We have an office tradition of wearing casual attire on Fridays.

He twirled spaghetti around his fork.
A girl twirled her hair around her finger.
He twirled the noodles around his chopsticks.

you are supposed to stop a red light.
He was supposed to be here an hour ago.
You are supposed to read two chapters.

There is got to be a better way to crack these nuts.
A rock from a dump truck cracked my windshield.
He cracked open a coconut with his hands.

There are a variety of methods to solve the problem.
Smoking cause a variety of health issues.

You need to keep your bathroom clean at all times.
