Workers’ Day in Korea

Workers’ Day commemorates the struggle and gains made by workers and the labor movement. In Korea the first May Day celebration took place on May 1st, 1923 by the Joseon Federation of Labor. May 1st is a national holiday in more than 80 countries. Although it is not a national holiday in Korea, banks and other businesses are closed and many workers enjoy their day off today.
